Soil Analysis Technician (24 weeks). South-East. Irlanda

Teagasc is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic technician to support the research programme.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

•To provide technical support

•To carry out laboratory preparation and analysis of soil samples for available and total nutrient content (to include total metal analysis)

•To carry out laboratory analysis on analytical instrumentation as required, ensuring equipment and facilities are operating efficiently and to the highest standard.

•To contribute to the management of samples, equipment and consumables.

•To undertake quality control of laboratory analyses, ensuring good data management

•To carry out electronic data entry of research samples using Teagasc LIMS system and recording of results.

•To contribute to the teamwork and team spirit at Johnstown Castle, fostering and adding to further collaboration and integration.

•Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.

•To complete additional duties as they arise and assigned by the line manager.

•To assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service charter and action plan.

•Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Person Specification  - Essential

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Level 6 qualification in Chemistry, Agricultural science, Soil science, Environmental science or a related discipline.     

Skills:

Experience in working in a laboratory environment

Experience in working methodically

Ability to work autonomously.

IT skills Microsoft office (Excel, Word)         

Knowledge:

Knowledge of good lab practice

Knowledge of handling laboratory samples.

Knowledge of H&S protocols.      

Behavioural Competencies:

Ability to work as part of a team and on their own initiative.

Strives for high quality of work and demonstrates commitment to high quality results.

Ability to communicate effectively to enable knowledge and technology transfer.

Ability to carry out critical thinking and problem solving
