Duties & Responsabilities :

About the role:

• The successful candidate will be leading a team of 2 energy analysts covering energy markets (CO2, Power, Natural Gas, LNG, Thermal Coal & Oil) mainly in Europe and more & more often beyond but also a Phd at UNI.Lu working on Renewable power forecast.

• The focus of this position lies on ensuring

o Market watch and follow up of the different news to Front Office

o Fundamental analysis Natural gas, LNG and Power to support Group Hedging decisions

o Prices forecasting model development from very short term within day to very long term Year + 20.

o Price forecast analysis to support group middle to long term investment decisions.

• The role will focus on providing market intelligence to support the Front Office in their Power & Gas hedging activities and supporting various teams in long term procurement of energy.

• The role will also lead to the development of short-term optimizations alongside with the sites to harness their flexibility and adjust their production in volatile markets.

• The role is exposed to various operational topics involved in the management of an industrial utility (Assistance and guidance for bilateral contracting, capacity markets, Green certificates etc) where global market understanding is required.

• The role provides access to various data & news sources which are crucial for the daily activities (i.e. Bloomberg, Refinitiv, …).

Key Responsibilities:

• Daily screening of the Power and Natural Gas & LNG markets, and filtering the most important news to keep the traders as well as the management informed of the latest movements and drivers.

• Performing bespoke short term (i.e. impact of supply disruptions…) and structural long-term analysis (i.e. Summer/Winter Outlooks) on various energy market related matters.

• Understanding today's market dynamics and applying them to the future to give educated advice on future price movements (i.e. research, analyze and forecast mid and long-term market trends)

• Maintaining high quality of regular reports/presentations to people familiar with the energy markets but also to senior management who wants to understand the latest trends and impacts on the company.

• Supporting the Traders in the development of hedging proposals and trading strategies.

• Modelling the energy Markets in various ways is key to success to all of the above.

• Harnessing industrial sites flexibility, by understanding their assets and offering tailormade solutions for short term optimizations.

• Developing short term trading in favor of the sites to cope with unplanned events (outages, early late ramp-ups).

• Offer short term market views (D+1 – D+10) to the sites to include the energy costs in their production strategies.

• Ensure the production mode of the PHD forecasting model.

Education :

• Master's degree in an energy related domain, like Energy Management or Engineering are ideal, but a degree in another Science related subject can work equally well.

Skills & Specifications :

• Excel skills are critical, programming skills (R, python, …) will be a strong plus and can/will be learned on the job.

• High attention to detail and strong critical thinking/analytical skills.

• Team player with the ability to think systemically and solve problems effectively and efficiently, always challenging the status quo.

• Demonstrating own initiative, being pro-active and showing confidence when presenting.

• Strong communication skills in English (English speaking environment, other languages a plus but not a must), verbal and written, with the ability to adjust the communication to the needs of the recipient and to explain complex issues in a clear and concise manner.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks at the same time.

• Ability to interact effectively and professionally within a multi-cultural environment.

Work experience requirements :

• Experience of working in the energy markets for 8-10 years is mandatory and the exposure to a trading environment is beneficial.

• Mandatory to have experience with European energy regulation

• Mandatory to have experience with modelization of power market prices construction

Languages :

• Fluent English is mandatory
