A combined position as clinical professor (50% time) and as consultant (50% time) is vacant at the Department of Regional Health ResearchFaculty of Health SciencesUniversity of Southern Denmark (SDU) and at the Department of Innovation, Data and Research, Lillebaelt Hospital.

The position is for a 5-year period with the possibility of extension. 

Lillebaelt Hospital has received acknowledgement of high-quality research and education and is part of The University Hospital of Southern Denmark.

The academic position

The clinical professor will be appointed at The Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU. The position will be in translational research, innovation, and epidemiologic research with specific focus on cardiovascular diseases (anticoagulation, cancer associated thromboembolism, peripheral artery disease, thrombosis, atrial fibrillation, venous thromboembolism, and diabetes). 

Trans-sectional research and collaboration on a regional, national, and international level will be expected.

Areas of responsibility

The clinical professor will be responsible for strengthening and promoting research as well as developing new strategies for collaboration with other key stakeholders within medical treatment and diagnostics in the broadest sense and within epidemiological research. 

Additionally, the clinical professor will be expected to teach and mentor postdocs, PhD students, and pre- and postgraduate students, as well as to maintain and develop national and international contacts and promote funding. Participation in assessment work is part of the position. Moreover, profiling the research area in the public eye will be an important task. 

Research activity, network, and collaboration

The clinical professor will be expected to increase research activities at the research unit and to expand collaboration with other researchers at hospitals in The Region of Southern Denmark, at SDU, and in the rest of Denmark. Establishment of international collaborations of benefit to the Department of Innovation, Data and Research, and for Lillebaelt Hospital will be expected as well.

The clinical position

The applicant must be qualified as a senior consultant. The clinical position will be at the Department of Innovation, Data and research, Lillebaelt Hospital, Denmark. 

An important role for the clinical professor will be to collaborate with exchanging ideas, both strategic and practical and to guidance related to research and innovation to both the Hospital Management, as well as to individuals, teams, key stakeholders and departments at all levels at Lillebaelt Hospital. 

The new clinical professor will also be expected to take a leading role within own clinical field of expertise and to engage and contribute to the public debate regarding inequality in health as well as cross-sectoral collaboration. Moreover, the clinical professor will be expected to perform public duties, i.e., to chair commissions and boards etc. In addition to academic writing and tasks, the applicant will be expected to be able to teach, supervise, and communicate with colleagues, patient representatives, and patient associations. Danish or another Nordic language is therefore required.

Qualifications

The successful applicant has a PhD or equivalent postgraduate research qualification and must be qualified as a senior consultant. We expect an applicant who has extensive experience with research management and experience with national and international research collaboration. An applicant who is visionary and capable of developing the current entity and who is active at a high organizational level, preferably in national as well as international scientific societies. We are looking for an active and internationally recognized researcher with a large network who can help to profile Lillebaelt Hospital externally.

Furthermore, the preferred candidate has:

  • Demonstrated skills and scientific achievements within the described areas.
  • Ability to motivate, supervise and has proven research management skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and visions of how to further strengthen research in the department. 
  • A strong publication record and significant experience in raising external funding.

Danish will not be required initially, but must be mastered at proficiency level C1, at the Common European Framework of References for Languages within the first 2 years of employment.

The successful applicant for the clinical professor position will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
